At a Glance: In Baldhip Rose, the crown of sepals falls sway form the fruit early, leaving the end of the hip ’bald’ making it unique among our area roses. It grows in a bariety of habitats, from open to wooded. A spindly 5-ish foot tall shrub, usually with numerous soft, straight prickles, sometimes unarmed especially on younger stems.
Leaves: Alternate, deciduous, compound with an odd number (5-9) of toothed leaflets.
Flowers: Small 5-petaled pale-pink to rose flowers with numerous stamens, usually borne singly a the end of branches.
Fruit: Orange to scarlet, pear-shaped ‘hips’ without attached sepal lobes.
