At a Glance: Blue Elderberry is a deciduous shrub or small tree reaching up to 20’ tall. It has soft pithy twigs, dark reddish-brown, warty bark.
Leaves: Leaves are opposite, large, divided into 5-9 leaflets. Leaflets are lance-shaped, 2-6” long, pointed, sharply toothed and often somewhat hairy beneath.
Flowers: White to creamy, small flowers are numerous in a flat-topped rounded umbel or umbrella-like cluster.
Fruit: Small, buff-blue berry-like drupes, with a whitish bloom.
