At a Glance: A broadleaf deciduous tree well suited to wet sites.

Height: Up to 80 feet (25 meters).
Stems: Bark is thin and gray with smooth white patches of lichens.
Leaves:  Leaves are opposite and pinnately compound, 15-30 cm long, 5-7 oval leaflets, each 5-15 cm long and 2.5-4 cm wide. Leaflets are elliptical and short-pointed at the end.
Flowers: Flowers dioecious – male and female flowers on separate trees, small, about 3 mm, male flowers yellowish and greenish, both in small clusters and without petals, appear before leaves.
Fruits:  Fruit is a single samara, 3-5 cm long, and hangs in dense clusters.
