At a Glance: Oregon White Oak, or ‘Garry Oak’, are beautiful, heavy-limbed, slow-growing trees that can reach 25 m in height, but are often short and crooked in rocky areas. It grows in open areas, from dry, rocky slopes or bluffs to deep, rich, well-drained soil in low elevations.

Leaves: Alternate, deciduous, deeply round-lobed oak leaves to 12cm long, shiny dark green above, greenish-yellow and brown-hairy below, turn dull yellow and brown in fall.

Flowers: Male and female flowers tiny, inconspicuous, male flowers in hanging catkins, female flowers single or in small clusters, flowers as the leaves appear in spring.

Fruit: Acorns, 2-3 cm long, in shallow, rough-surfaced cups, sweet, tannic, edible
