At a Glance: This plant is a slow spreading, clump forming, grass-like perennial that grows up to 4 ft. tall. This species grows well in fresh to brackish marshes, swamps, ditches, and moist seasonal wetlands and meadows.
Leaves: the smooth culms or stems are rolled into a cylinder and are 2-4’ long.
Flowers: this species has coppery inflorescences that appear along the side of the culms. The florets are arranged in loose umbrella like clusters that are 1-4” long. Inflorescence mature into small brown seed capsules.
