At a Glance: Vine Maple is a deciduous shrub or scraggly small tree up to 25’ tall. The sprawling branches often root and form new ‘colonies’. Stems are pale green, becoming dull brown with age. They do well under other trees where some light reaches through the canopy, or on forest edges. They sometimes thrive in open areas of shrubfields and clearcuts.

Leaves: Maple leaves are opposite, round 7-9 lobed, and toothed. In the fall they turn either golden in the shade or bright red in the sun.

Flowers: Flowers are small and white in loose clusters at the end of shoots.
