At a Glance: Western White Pine is a medium-sized beautifully symmetrical tree that generally reaches about 130’ in height, but occasionally can grow much taller. The bark is initially smooth, sometimes with resin blisters, but becomes scaly, dark grey to nearly black and cinnamon colored underneath.
Leaves: Needles are in bundles of 5, are light bluish-green, slender and flexible, 2-4” long.
Cones: Pollen cones are yellow, seed cones cylindrical when closed, and much longer than pollen cones at 4-10” long. Yellow-green to purple when young, becoming reddish-brown and woody. Scales without prickles.
