At a Glance: Checker lily is a perennial herb that grows 8–28 inches (20–70 cm) tall. It is known for its striking, nodding, bell-shaped flowers with a mottled checkerboard pattern of brown, green, and yellow. It grows from a bulb and blooms in early to mid-spring.
Leaves: The leaves are narrow, lance-shaped, and arranged in whorls or scattered alternately along the stem.
Flowers: The solitary or few nodding flowers are bell-shaped with six mottled tepals, usually dark brown to greenish-yellow with a checkered pattern. Flowers are borne singly or in pairs at the top of the stem.
