At a Glance: Oregon Ash prefers moist to wet soils at low elevations, often near streams or in other areas that are occasionally flooded. It is a medium-sized tree, up to 25 m tall, with bark becoming greyish-brown and fissured with age.

Leaves: Opposite, deciduous, pinnately compound with usually 5-7 leaflets, leaflets to 13 cm long, oval, olive-green above, paler and wooly beneath, turning yellow in the fall.

Flowers: Small flowers, male and female on separate trees. Appear before the leaves in bunched clusters on the twigs.

Fruit: Paddle-shaped, 1-seeded, winged fruits that are 3-5 cm long and appear in large clusters on female trees before the leaves in spring. Fruit stalks very fine, almost hair-like.
