At a Glance: Also known as Saskatoon, Serviceberry is a shrub or small tree with smooth stems that can form dense colonies spread by rhizomes. They can be found on rocky shorelines, bluffs, slopes, meadows, thickets and forest edges.
Leaves: The deciduous leaves are alternate, thin, round to oval. They are regularly toothed, mostly on top half.
Flowers: The large white flowers have 5 petals, 15-20 stamens and are showy in short drooping to erect leafy clusters.
Fruit: Dull-red at first, they become purple to nearly black berry-like pomes, with a white bloom, edible and sweet.
